I had the dell XPS 1710 (albeit with 2.13ghz processor) and it was utterly fantastic (till i sold it to big stan for financial reasons).

Played everything i threw at it though, prey looked amazing :)

And jolly glad he is that he bought it - thanks dude.

It hasn't balked at anything I've thrown at it yet.

Give the M1710 some serious thought :)

They sell them here (with the 5,400 HDD) for a lot less than the price you have.

Stan :)

Option 1's gfx card is designed for CAD and developing games, make sure you get a 7900GTX go if you have a 3k budget, and try for a core 2 duo (merom) based lappy as opposed to a regular core duo.

also, theres nothing wrong with Dell, especially for laptops.
Edit - Just checked their website and it states under tech specs that they use core 2 duos although when you go to configure it, you're only offered a regular core duo, they must be trying to shift them

Never had a problem with Dell laptops, never had a problem with after service and we have over 10 in the office. The high end stuff is awesome as they are trying to break into that market and are competative re price. The XMS are fantastic machines and will handle everything you throw at them.

Well, their laptops are pretty poorly built. Especially compared to the likes of Lenovo (IBM).

Odd

The one sitting on my kitchen table is one of the best constructed laptops I've seen - and absolutely stonking performance too.

Can't play games on your lap though! :D

Course you can, kind of. For £3k you could spec a Conroe shuttle with all the mashings and a 32" LCD to wall mount. Then get a wireless KB/Mouse and away you go :D

If you must have a laptop then go for the option4 company but pick the mobile conroe 2.33 Ghz that they will offer in the next month as your CPU.

Should not set you back more than £2.5K and very quick compared to the AMD laptops.

Their customer service is pretty good for the UK operation (I have a desktop PC from them) its only the US which is poor due to them employing cheap non english speaking staff in critical areas!
