what can i do except loosen timmings to help increase the speed of ram a bit? i was told not to overvolt ram due to they will die on me, but looking in cpc ram reviews they overvolted them by 0.2v ish =/ as an result they got nice overclocks 200+MHz

Unless your running a Socket A type system then Ram speeds arnt as important as they used to be. Higher clocking Ram is nice to have but most people now just buy faster ram.
Ultimately the vast percentage of your performance will come from raw clock speed.

there's no problem with overclocking your Ram - by the time it eventually dies, your rig will be obsolete ;)

Think I've got 2.3 going through mine, tho I have the OCZ ram cooler thang :)

Really can't see an issue at all with 2.2/2.3, most Ram is rated at 2.1 nowadays anywho

Extra volts doesnt mean a higher OC, you will always hit a point of no return.
Why overvolt PC6400 ram and risk killing it when 4 gig of PC 8000 can be had for £82. Unlike an overvolted CPU, upping your Mem speed by 20% makes little difference to overall performance.

why post on overclockers if you don't like overclocking ;)

I bought PC6400 as I built the cheapest upgrade from skt939 that I could..

The fact that it *will* do PC8000 speeds makes me think the complete opposite of yourself - why buy PC8000 when I can spend £20 less and get the same results ;)

I couldn't agree more.

I got 2gb of DDR800 for £30 as I couldn't afford any more at the time, but it'll do speeds equal to the stock speeds of more expensive RAM. That's the whole point to overclocking. :D

I agree that there's less of a performance boost to be had from the RAM speed itself but if you want to run a higher fsb then dropping the timings and pushing the RAM is the way to go! Unless of course it won't do it, then you have no choice, but that's all the fun of overclocking!

Im aware of the point of overclocking, ive done a little bit myself.
If you read the original question

what can i do except loosen timmings to help increase the speed of ram a bit?

increasing the voltage on its own wont make the ram faster, it MAY let you run it faster via an increase in the FSB but there is no certainty that it will but that's all the fun of overclocking!.

If you have PC6400 RAM running at PC8500 speeds and it only cost £30 then you truly have a bargain, im pretty confidant that the PC6400 for sale at OCers for £30 wont hit 1066 fsb but you must have got lucky.
but that's all the fun of overclocking!

He's well aware that increasing the voltage on its own wont make the ram faster! He's asking if it is safe to do so as he wants to run a higher fsb. It seems it's you that hasn't read the original question.

And who says I bought my RAM from OCers? And for that matter who said 1066fsb!!!!????

Read my post properly and you will notice that my Voltage comment wasnt aimed at the OP.

When you meant more expensive ram, i thought you meant faster ram (which would be 1066 type stuff). If not then the sentance doesnt make sense anyway. You have cheap ram that will run at the same stock speed as expensive ram?
When you say DDR 800 ram, do you mean the old socket A type stuff or do you mean DDR2 (PC6400)

I don't think *any* ram would do 1066 fsb.. or any mobo for that matter :P

I guess I got lucky, as my £30 PC2-6400 will do 1066 mhz easily, at stock timings..
