The fifth collaboration between Spike Lee and Denzel Washington, Highest 2 Lowest, streaming September 5 on Apple TV+

When a titan music mogul (Denzel Washington), widely known as having the “best ears in the business,” is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma. Brothers Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the fifth time in their long working relationship for a reinterpretation of the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller “High and Low,” now played out on the mean streets of modern day New York City.

Lol just seeing the movie name typed out that way and seeing Denzel I thought "Huh, that has to be a Spike Lee joint"

Then read the first line of the post.

6-6.5/10. (At least 1 is for Denzel's performance).

Denzel is amazing, music/soundtrack is great but the story is just weak. Also the random music video and the final 20 minutes are crap.

Another AppleTV+ stinker. It's sad that really good directors (and actors) are happy to just keep taking the huge money from Apple and Netflix and churn out crap that would flop hard at the "real" box office.

There are a few classic Denzel moments peppered throughout the film. That and the soundtrack are the only things that stopped me from turning it off halfway through when I stopped caring about the story.

It was a figure of speech haha not literally lol

Half tempted I do like Denzel.

Can't name a movie I've not loved him in tbh, I highly rate his Equalizer trilogy so something roughly similar could hit the spot.

It's silly balls to the wall fun/action with a touch of depth, and he adds a ton of presence just by being himself.

I can live with that!

It's quite an eccentric film. Some throwbacks to the 90s in terms of soundtrack for sure, and I wasn't really sold on the story or the acting of a$ap, but it was ok.

I must confess, I thought his son or sons friend was Asap Rocky. Only near the end did I realise my mistake!
