Hill, Mansell, Schumacher

Yup. Graham Hill is a popular example.

Money is probably a bigger issue nowadays more than ever.

obviously i was more on about the fangio and moss era.....

even in the 60's most of them were pretty well off , a lot of people did struggle and would have you believe it was on a shoe string budget look in to how much it really cost.

dont pretend it would have been full of the most skilled drivers at that time.

maybe you consider jackie stewart to be working class even though his parents owned a jaguar dealership though ;)

You're quoting the wrong fella there mate.

I only mentioned Graham Hill.

I was just pointing out that the sport is no less reliant on backing and funds than it once was. F1 has always been richman's sport on the whole.

I think the driver's of days gone by probably had more raw talent than the current generation. Yeah you have to press more buttons these days but in the past it was changing gears, changing brake balance (Schui used to change it practically every corner) so not any more skll involved these days.

Although I am a Schui fan, I think without a doubt in my book only Senna was a cut above the rest. Bret the hitman Hart (for us old school WWF fans!) used to use the catchphrase 'The best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be.' That was Senna, may he RIP.
