which type of hiper psu are the ones that have been failing?

is it a particular model like

Hiper HPU-4M580 Type R 580W ATX2.2 PSU

or

Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU

or is it just all hipers

thanks

I think your probably best off staying away from Hiper all together.

There are quite a few on the forums who've had bad experiences with them.

I'd suggest looking at something from Enermax, Seasonic, Tagan or Corsair as these all seem to be great PSU's.

IVe got a hiper 580w type r but unsure which model....whether its modular or not....is a modular psu simply one that you can connect more molex' to the psu and remove unneeded ones? or is there more to it. Ive used it for about a year 24/7 with no problems.

thanks for the replies.

i have read several reviews that say the hipers are fine, and i can not really afford any of the others that are the same approx wattage, as i am slightly over budget (£270 over) on the new system i am getting.

i was therefore trying to see if the trend was that a particular model was more prone to failure. i.e. if the people that had problems with them had the modular models.

its either that or use my old(20pin conector) thermaltake 460w psu that has 22a on the 12v rail, that has been powering my overclocked athlon xp system 24/7 for approx the last 3 year. thats only been turned off by a power cut or when i go on vacation once a year.

I had the Hiper Type R 580w modular with 1x pci-e connector if thats any use. Mine was also working fine for over a year until it went bang one day and took out a new motherboard at the same time. Steer well clear. It is not worth the gamble and there have been dozens of failures on here alone over the past couple of months. They also cannot put out their claimed wattage and are extremely innefficient. A review will not judge how long it takes to blow up and whether or not it will take the rest of your rig with it. If you read a review with one up against a decent up to date psu it will always come last. You would be better off spending your money on a decent brand such as Seasonic, OCZ, Tagan, Akasa or Enermax. Make do with your Thermaltake until you can afford to replace it with a decent one.

They always do until they go boom and take some of your valuable hardware with it. Don't say you were'nt warned. Your rig will certainly make it sweat so maybe sooner rather than later.

RMA'd a Hiper modular 580W the other week only had it a day fitted it and there was nothing there no lights, power nothing!!

So, really i cant say whether they are good or bad as i have never actually had one running in my machine.

Every report I've read of Hipers going Pop has always been the Type-R 580 watts. I never once seen the standard type M being reported as popping/blowing/killing hardware....

But then I guess the popularity of the Type-R is much higher than that of the bog standard model :)

Anyways, after all these reports of Hipers going pop, I think I'll be getting a new PSU for christmas.

Maybe the Enermax Galaxy 1KW  lol!

meh, its crossfire certified and tested by ATI if there happy then i am ;), i think a few faulty batches have gone out in the past there amazing psu's.

How do you handle it if you buy a psu, it goes bang and kills other hardware? Do you try to get the company you bought the psu off to compensate you?

Have a Type-R, running a 680i/8800GTS fine for a month so far.

Still on the edge of my chair, lol.
