Hiper PSU's

Oh no i better switch my Hiper type R 580W powered p.c. off with the thunder and lightning lol. sometimes i am scared in case i have a build up of static and touch my case as it may blow up my Hiper. I think i have been reading too many 'my hiper just blew up' threads. :D

I hope this lightning storm dont bloody take out my corsair, if it did, I rekon there would be a 100% chance if I had the Hiper in it would not blow it haha

Well, it "only" blew a £80 PSU..................expensive moment that was....could've taken out 3HD, CPU and the rest....I suppose

I had a Hiper Type-R 580W PSU blow up just the other day in my work PC, that was about 18 months old!

A friend of mine has also had the same PSU go over roughly the same time period and based on these experiences, I wouldn't ever buy Hiper again. Strange thing is, they all seem to go at around the same age... spooky!

Mine went bang around 17 months, did not take anything with it and was also purchased from OCUK,I replaced it with an OCZ 700w.

I never bothered getting the Hiper replaced, chucked it in the bin, never going to buy or use their products again.

yeh i got scared from all the reports and didnt want to risk putting a £300+ new gfx card in my system just for the psu to blow it up!

What you people need to realise is even if EVERY single hiper PSU sold through Overclockers exploded, that's still only one small portion of one batch of their PSUs. Same with Crucial ballistix 5300 RAM (which was the "OMG it's going to blow" phenomenon of last week), same with Corsair PSUs (which people screamed about because maybe 2/3 failed in the past 3 weeks).

No computer component in the world can be guaranteed against failure. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either naieve or stupid.

I'd just like to point out that my PSU didn't come from OcUK and neither did my friend's. Whilst I agree that problems like this are usually limited to a faulty batch, they can and indeed do apply to products from an entirely different supply.

Not to start with the scaremongering but I think it goes to show that a manufacturer's reputation can be severely damaged by problems like this, no matter what the scale of the issue. I for one have been put off buying from Hiper again judging from my own experiences.

Mine did'nt come from here either!! Mine barely lasted 12 months let alone 18 months. You cannot argue that there is not something wrong going on, either with their quality control or the components they use.

Don't get me wrong, there have been a large number of Hiper failings, but again, every poster on this board is an extremely small sample in the grand scheme of things.

I don't doubt that there may be a QC problem with the Hipers, but the problem comes when people now start shouting about something being "The next hiper" because their 1 component failed, which can damage the image of a perfectly good company for no reason.

If their QC was up to scratch, then they wouldn't have any components fail! At least not in such a large number of affected products. I know for certain that there are other people outside of this forum that have had the same problems with Hiper PSUs so it isn't limited to this small group.

Unfortunately as the world of selling computer components is so fiercley competitive, especially in the performance sector, companies can't afford to make mistakes like this. The problem itself may be a simple one and may well be attributed to a single component but the reality is that the customer doesn't care about that, the customer only wants the thing to work and not have to worry about its reliability.

I'm sure the majority of products manufactured by Hiper are trouble-free but it's the ones that cause problems that are remembered and reputed.

It would've been quite difficult for them to have known their power supplies blow up after 12-18 months. Sometimes they just get a bad set of components and don't realise. It was certainly like that with the motherboards that have the dodgy capacitors which eventually exploded a while back. no one could've predicted the capacitors would've blown up, nor could have hiper done the same thing. They could have tested for months on end and still be trouble free, but they still need to ship the product to start making money.

That is a completely ridiculous statement, and if you think that's even remotely true, you really need to rethink what you know about computer components.

If you take that statement seriously then you have a problem. It's a completely flippant comment and obivously not meant to be serious! Grow up!

mine was fine for 18months and then blew.
SNAP! Thats what my 580 Type R did too. Trouble is, I can't find the bloody receipt! Hiper in their infinite wisdom won't touch it, even though its security sticker dates it well under their 2 year warranty!

Sarcastic comments are usually followed by a  Posting crap and then saying it wasn't serious when you get called on it is stupid. Grow up!
