I have an idea for a fairly complicated site I want built. I could hack my way through it as an amateur but I know it would take forever. I just want to have someone competent do it for me. PHP/mysql would be fine because that's what I know myself. Maybe something built on Joomla or Drupal.

A. Where would I find a developer? I know there are various sites where Romanians/Indians underbid each other on your job but that doesn't fill me with much confidence for some reason.

B. How to I prevent them stealing the ideas/code?

C. How much should a site like beeradvocate.com (as a rough example, not going to rip off the idea) cost to create?

D. I suppose I would also need a separate developer to make nice xhtml/css/logos and all that?

Outsourcing sites are useful. You just have to check their ratings / portfolios and get a few references. Kind of like how eBay's feedback system works.

Don't discriminate based on nationality / geographical location. There are unscrupulous 'ideas/code stealing' natives in developed countries too. ;)

You could also approach established UK studios / freelancers, though they will cost more. Just examine their portfolios and get some references

Your budget will determine which path you choose.
