which card would be better? the his 1950 pro? or the 1950XT?

how much more performance do you get out of the XT version over the Pro?

im talking about the turbo versions of both which have been overclocked i do believe and are quieter and cooler than the sapphire ones

XT is faster than pro, but it is more expensive and requires more power.

Pixel shaders: XT has 48, Pro has 36
Vertex shaders: Both have 8
Pipes: Both have 8

The above determine how much work can be done in each clock cycle (roughly).

Some people have reported a few driver problems with the XT, but in terms of raw power they are quite good value. Can't go too wrong with either in terms of price/performance.

would the Pro be able to handle games like company of heroes, rainbow 6 at max settings on 1280? or should i go with the XT so i have something that would last me a while?

i plan on getting a DX10 card at the end of this year so im a bit unsure as to what i should buy now

In your situation I would probably get a x1950 Pro, and save the rest for a dx10 card.

Company of Heroes is quite a demanding game, but I think you can run it at decent level of detail with that card. I'll find the thread with some x1950 scores on it...

So probably not maximum, unless you don't mind dropping down to 14 fps. Kill the shadows and you'll probably be fine.

i guess im also trying to plan ahead for games like UT2007 which i dont even think the 8800 would be able to handle at max settings, well, maybe, but the 1950 cards wont be able to. do you think thered be much of a performance difference between the pro and xt in that game?

i wont be getting a dx10 card until either the end of the year or next year which is quite a while away. will the pro last me until then especially with my upgrade to vista in about july and all the games which will come out?

well i just plugged my Pro in last night. And by god its fast!

the only games im playing are EQ2 (Can now run in Ultra mode easily), Vanguard beta (one setting off the top one), FS9 (Everything maxed), Titan Quest (Everything maxed), HL2 (Everything maxed) all at 1280x1024

Might download the CoH demo later and see how that goes. havnt got rainbow 6 either so cant say about those.

This really will do me till the dx10 cards come down a little. I cant see too much on the near horizon that will stress this setup out now.

My machine is a intel E6400 unclocked, 2 gigs ram and the HIS pro card. Very happy with it. And its totally silent too.

Should be fine, from what NumptyUK says. And the rest of your kit is pretty high end
