Hi all

just cracked open my new HIS 6950 to check comparability with the arctic cooling accelero xtreme plus 2, and this is what i found under the plastic shell, some terrible little cooler that doesn't seem to even do any thing... no wonder the thing was idling at 68'c

i thought the cooling on a asus rev 1 6950 was bad...

What a naff cooler.

It looks like something they'd use for testing purposes until they designed a proper cooler.

I wouldn't be happy to have received that.

I suppose it looks better with the shroud on.

Looks like a cooler off a low end graphics card. I think it's a disgrace the amount of noise these stock coolers make. How people can tolerate them is beyond me.

Jeeesss...is aluminium really THAT expensive (ok, I know they do cost a bit)? With the shroud on, one would really think that the heatsink is covering majority of the card's length!

Agree, stock coolers annoy me too.. horrible.

I spent the extra £££ and maintained a quieter system.

Yeah, I had a HIS 6970 turbo - sounded like a jet taking off when it got above 60% speed.

Unfortunatly as it was a terrible heatsink/cooler/fan it required 100% most of the time in intensive games.

Had to fork out & purchase an arctic accelero plus - runs 25 degrees quieter at 1/4 of the volume.

They really need to sort out these pathetic coolers on these stock graphics cards.

Hi there

I take it this was not purchased from OcUK?

I ask because were rather selective with HIS which products we take and we have avoided this model of 6950 from HIS due to the cooler and cheaper construction, yes its cheap but HIS have made cut backs to make it so cheap.

If this is from OcUK let me know please as we only order the IceQ models and that is not an IceQ model.

it was bought from ******. well if id know i would have spent a little extra and got the saphie twin fan one as its only about £15 more expensive

Its a hard one because I guess its a bit of you get what you pay for, the card you have is good value but sometimes its worth spending a little more. That is why we opt for the IceQ varients, yes they cost more but they have very good cooling solutions which perform better over stock and are quieter.

If its within 7 days you could DSR the product for a full refund and then go with like the Sapphire version.

Wow, that's a terrible little cooler :o

I have the Arctic Cooling cooler on my 6950, it does an awesome job at keeping my beast cool! It idles at about 30C and I've not seen it go pat about 68C in Furmark with fans at 30%, so it stays whisper quiet too.

Nope those cards have a cooler which cover nearly all of the PCB with 4 heatpipes, very similar to MSI Twin FrozR II cooler, basically a very good performing cooler which can handle the card and its great overclock. :)

Anyone know if this particular card can be unlocked to a 6970? I have been seriously considering getting it.
