Hi
I've been happy with my graphics card since I bought it way back in early August
Recently the fan has started to grind occasionally but this didn't really worry me as I had heard that the fans on these can do this
When I was playing Test Drive Unlimited however the screen started flashing after about an hour or so - it looked like windows was trying to grab focus. I Alt Tabbed out and sure enough the ATI CCC had spawned a load of windows saying that it had reduced the clock speed due to the card overheating. I thought that it was odd, but went back into the game. The game froze shortly after and the PC rebooted. I promptly loaded up the CCC and the card's temperature had shot up to 108 degrees C! See the screenshot below:
When I opened up the case the fan on the card had completely stopped spinning - no wonder it had cooked itself! I tried rebooting the PC and switching it off and on but the fan failed to start. As I was going out I couldn't investigate further so I left it
When I switched the PC on today however the fan was working properly - it started up as normal
Is it worth sending it back? I'm not sure as it's only happened once (all the cables in my case are cable tied so nothing was touching it
) and I've heard that the HIS RMA service can be rather poor. They might get it back, test it, the fan works and they send it back no fault found.
What would you suggest? Is this a common problem?
Thanking you in advance,
Alistair
