Afraid not. When our dog got hit ( thanks to the mrs being a muppet ) i asked at the local police station as to wether the driver should have come forward, as i was curious.. and apparently no there is no obligation to report hitting a dog. Only a person or a livestock animal.

Nice that your local police don't know the law.

Falls under the Road Traffic Act that you HAVE to inform for hitting a dog.

The Policeman was wrong

and

If a dog is injured as a result of a collision with a motor vehicle the driver must stop, and provide their name and address to any person reasonably requiring it. If the driver does not supply those details at the time the accident must be reported at a police station, in person, within 24 hours.

When was the last time you posted a fact that wasn't wrong?

Im gonna go with this morning, posted in a couple of threads, btw perhaps instead of just posting a general insult you could explain/list which point in the post you quoted you believe is incorrect? Then I can respond to it?

How about the bit where you say that I do have to inform someone over running over a cat?

You know, the bit where you were proven to be wrong, yet still argued against?

...the bit that never happend you mean? Im fairly sure that I actually referenced that you don't have to notify anybody, in fact here it is again in case you missed it:

Not being required to notify the police isn't the same as not being responsible for the damages.

See above...,

You are not responsible for damage to a cat if it runs out in front of your car, either.

Is this going to be like that AC thread all over again? Are you suddenly going to announce your experience was actually all with totally different types of cat or something? Are we legally responsible for damage to tigers?

At least paradigm cares about ubersonic gettings facts wrong on the internet. There is only so much "care" a person can contain at any given moment. Fact.

Seeing as it ran off after you hit it, hopefully it'll be OK.

If you want to have less guilt, buy a tin of cat meat and stick it in a bowl at the side of the road where you hit the cat. :)

crinkleshoes that was a fairly retarded "reply". Please think about what you post rather thyan mindlessly swearing at people, thankyou.

What else should I come back with. It was starred out as per forum rules...

He's talking about injuring/killing treasured pets who, to a lot of people, are members of their families and then just ignoring it as if it never happened. I would be devastated if someone ran over one of my cats... I would be losing a member of my family. They were hand-reared when their mother decided not to feed them any more... would be like losing a child.

And he's crass enough to make out it's no big deal... **** him... if the conversation was in person he would not be standing any more... ****!

You can't help the cat because you don't know where it is or who it belongs to.

Cats hide when injured, it'll probably bleed and get infected and die.

Sucks, but nothing you can do. Not your fault it ran out, you couldn't possibly avoid it.

I think you just need to calm down and realise that whilst yes you can disagree with him, we are on an internet forum and sometimes peoples opnions do have to be taken with a pinch of salt as they are often far more extreme than what they would be in real life!

Why is it cat owners seem to come across quite mental...?

I'd love to see you try tell someone who actually has lost a child - "yeah it's like losing your cat isn't it!"

He's got a point. I'm a cat lover. Had them all my life. I'm always gutted when a cat belonging to the family dies.

I'm not mental, but would be devastated if something happened to one of ours and would hope that whoever was involved would report it/hand them into the vets as it's the decent and human thing to do.

Generally people that own pets grow very attached to them and see them as a member if the family so it's quite normal to get upset/emotional.

I just hate people who are ignorant enough to "not care" if they have played any part in another animal becoming injured whether it was their fault or a genuine accident.

Yes you are, you are also responsible if your dog attacks a cat or if you put up barbed wire in your garden and a cat gets injured. Of course it isn't something the police would be interested in (through RSPCA would get involved with the barb wire example) as its a civil matter but if the owners took it to civil court the legal precedent is that the offender usually pays reimbursement for the vet bills.

You bring that up whenever our views clash, remember I wasn't the only person who made mistakes in that thread, at least I admitted/apologised for mine, glass houses...
