Hit and run... not so far

Brake fluid, hell no Paint Stripper

I had paint stripper (nitromors) poured over one of my cars a few years back. The amount of people who said the car would be written off because you cant get the stuff off made me laugh.

It paint stripper. Its meant to strip paint ready for ...........yuuup Painting again.

Now brake fluid I believe can soak into the metal (may be an old wives tale though)

Get a little sticker made and put it on both of his number plates. Just something big enough for someone who is paying attention while driving in traffic or in a car park or something. Make sure the label has something REALLY offensive to an minority in the area and just wait! Or you could print out a little ganja leaf and stick it on his number plate and eventually he will get pulled.

So...op reports problem. Gets advice. Ignores all. Pays for the damage someone else caused.
Good thread.

Because the evidence is circumstantial and there are no witnesses. I'd be amazed if they even followed it up let alone speak to the other party.

And circumstantial evidence allows for and leads to the inference of truth or fact. It's probably far too late now anyway, but had the OP contacted the police at the moment and they had come to take a look, seen the paint transfer and location of impact on both cars they would have followed it up.

Either way, he seems more than content with paying for it himself now.

They would have knocked on an door where no one is home, just like the OP, and forgotten about it.

This kind of stuff is one small step above a cat stuck up a tree. OP is unhappy but just being realistic.

Exactly. This is a minor parking bump not a serial killer, there would be no investigation. I'm not trying to play it down and if it happened to me I'd be livid but I'm just trying to be realistic.

When my car was broken in to the officers that came out asked me to contact the investigation unit the next day. I wasn't going to bother but called them because they told me to. After much sucking through teeth they decided there was no point following it up because "the car was parked in the rain". I just told them it was fine and ended the call.

Who would do nothing.

How do you know this? About 2 years ago I clipped someone's car while reversing in a car park, as I'd only had my car about a week I had no rubbish in it to write a note out or anything. So my choice was either wait for the person to come back or drive away. I decided to drive away.

When I Got home a rang the police my self and reported the accident. About a week later I got a knock on the door, it turned out to be the police asking to speak to the owner of the car which was sitting on the drive (which was me of course). He came in my house and said it'd been reported that I'd left the scene of an accident with out leaving details. For some reason the police computer didn't link my phone call to his report, so all I did was give him my crime ref number. He went to his car for 10 minutes, came back and said "I've found your record now and won't be taking any further action".

If I'd never of rang up to report the accident my self he could have arrested me when he turned up at the door.
