my road serves only a small residential area, so i assume the rider must be very local. im still waiting to see a chav limping past :p

Just remember, Practise makes perfect ;) :p

ahh what a crap morning :(

its reasons like this that i dont want to learn to drive for now. imagine if its your insurance that has to pay out and your premium that goes up and so on because of some idiot riding into you.. if he ran off its pretty obvious he doesnt give a **** about how it could effect you :(

I didnt think TPTF had a premium

If you dont want to drive it would be better for you to get an old banger and insure it with full comprehensive so you build up a NCB while you are too scared to drive.

That way you will get low premiums when you do finally drive and get a good car :)

well his whatever the money they take from you and call it 'insurance' paying money to the mafia is insurance

im not scared to drive, i can drive (pretty well, gear chainging is a bit dodgy though) its just the whole tax, petrol, more tax, you owe us money because you have a car, a little more tax for good measure, 'insurance' and so on that id rather spend on something i want as im still young.

i keep thinking of doing that but when i tried it about 6 months? ago with an old h reg or something £200 nissan micra, they wanted £700 even though i said it was parked in a garage

i have 2 witnesses, so hopefully that will help

Do you know the 2 witnesses? If you do they will be counted as nothing. Someone on here had that a couple of months back where a man hit his car in a carpark and the only one that saw it was his work mate, but he wasn't classed as an impartial witness.

nope, they're just doing my friends roof! never seem em before

:edit: as i posted this:

but it posted it anyway o.O

not much of an update really.

The second claim is not doing much as i suspect they are waiting to see if the first accident writes off my car, making any repairs pointless.

However, my insurance company have had difficulty tracing the owner of the bike as its not showing up on any insurance databases (maybe the owner cancelled as it was written off?). They have now done a DVLA search to find the owners name/address (which i could've done tbh).

They will then write to the owner and request info etc...

Problem is, my MOT/insurance is due at the end of the month and i can see this claim much taking longer than that. what happens if, at the end of the month, the claim is still on going and my MOT expires and then my insurance does too? I can't have an un-MOT'd un-insured car on the road. I have no where to keep it off the road too (don't even know anyone willing to give up their driveaway for a broken clio :p)

Technically you have outstanding claims so your insurance co is unable to confirm your NCB status to any other insurance co or even for it's own use so you will find at least in short term you will be treated as having zero NCB until the claim is settled one way or another. Some insurance co's will refund you the difference between what you pay for renewal with zero NCB and what you would have had NCB wise if the idiot hadn't crashed into you after the claim is decided but you'd need to check with them.

As for the MOT you need a number plate that is clearly visible (I can tell it's on the p/s dash but it's not easy to read depending on how tight the tester is). but apart from that it appears to be all cosmetic though with the amount of damage you have the cost of a new bumper/door/bonnet is likely to make the car a financial write off as it'll cost more for parts/spraying and most importantly labour than the write off % value the insurance co use.

i need a new front plate, the current one is smashed to bits, just dont want to go out spending money (albeit a tenner here and there) if its going to be written off, but looks like i'll have to. But if i just stick a new front plate on, will it pass the MOT? (will take the other foglight out and replace the bulb in the sidelight.. all thats not working)

Surely, as i was hit by an uninsured driver it would be hard for them to put a claim in against me (more so as it was a hit & run etc...), or will the insurance co simply refuse my NCB whilst the claim is on going, no matter what? :(

I need that extra NCB to insure my new car :p

From that pic, and the damage to your car, I'd say you were actually liable, not the guy on the moped, for several reasons.

1) you're passing a row of parked cars where traffic coming the other way has priority.

2) you're making a turn across the traffic.

The police saying you are in the clear is regard to criminal charges, not insurance liability.

Simply because he hit you does not necessarily excuse you of liability.

Unlikely to be his fault if he stopped and the moped hit him whilst stationary..

But it is possibloe, depends how far accross making the turn he was...

The fact that the moped rider didnt stop has some influence as well...

the police have cleared me of any careless/reckless driving :)

I've seen some shockers get through MOT's (Beatle with a lolly pop stick holding the indicator stalk togehter!) but at least the same number of mechanically sound cars fail (one guy had his rear shocks replaced due to them apparently weeping only to find out they were perfect once off/clean). The tester almost had a new pair of implants if you get me ;)

Also ring the insurance co's claims service and ask what they would advise, unfortunatly if you don't hassle them they will move things along very slowly.

As for it passing an MOT why wouldn't it if the only things wrong with it are cosmetic ? You know about the plate/bulb/light/secure bumper so assuming that lot's taken care of and nowt else is damaged/on it's way outprior to the accidents then yea it should pass.

Only just spotted this, of course TPFT has a premium to pay, it isnt free insurance!

If you dont want to drive it would be better for you to get an old banger and insure it with full comprehensive so you build up a NCB while you are too scared to drive.

You don't need Comprehensive insurance to acrue NCB.

That way you will get low premiums when you do finally drive and get a good car :)

But you've paid out hundreds a year for insurance you didnt use so it probably wont save anything.
