Hello,
I recently bought a new HDD (Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 NCQ 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache) to replace my dead raptor. (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17579419 ) for reference. I have sent back the raptor and have recieved a replacement - Great Service! Anywho, back to my problem.
Last night i left a few downloads going as you do and left my PC on all night, as i always do. About 5.30am this morning (downloads only took 1 hour started at 12PM) my computer started to make very strange sounds. It was like spaceships flying around and alien gun sounds - like a radio on a non radio station - fuzzy. I got my ear close down to it and it sounded like it was coming from the new raptor! I then started to panic. Anyway i took the case of while pc was still running and listened some more and the noise was coming from the Speaker of my Silverstone Fan Controller!! So i unplugged it from the power and rebooted.
I had installed Windows XP on the new raptor that night. Anyway i turned of the computer turn it on again and the noise was gone. The computer went through the post and stuff and got to the OS selection - i clicked on the one i wanted and it had an error :
Cannot read HDD Hardware Error.
Cannot find HDD...........
And some more HDD info. So i figured it was loose cable so i took out the raptor and plugged it back in again - and it booted fine. Booted into Windows XP fine.
Now the Problem
I got to my computer and i see all my hard drives fine - But i try and click on my Hitachi and it takes about 1 minute to load ? Strange - So eventually i get in and what do i see? 90% of my files have been deleted!!! 50GB worth of stuff which was the backup of my old Raptor which broke. Yay! Anyway - 6am in the morning and i still couldnt get my head around what had happened. I looked for hidden files - nothing.
I then went to the System Error Log and there was about 20 HDD Errors saying something along the lines of :
Cannot Read on Ide/HDD0 : Bad Block
Etc.
At that point i thought - fantastic all my data has gone but i could deal with that - but then things got worse. I then tryed to copy some data over to my Hitachi and it did but when i closed the window of Hitachi and open it back up - the file deletes itself?! I tryed again and still the same. I can load up everything that is on the Hitachi that wasnt deleted but i cant make new files on it.
So am i looking at another dead HDD?
How unlucky if it is - TWO IN TWO WEEKS - wow.
Any ideas?
(Sorry for long post - need to vent out anger)
