Are these drives known for failure?
I've just had another one go, making that two within 3 years. I booted into Linux as I can't get into my Windows install anymore and the S.M.A.R.T. report gives the same error my old drive had, an issue with the reallocated sector count.
Having to replace with a 1TB Seagate now as this thing only had a crummy one year warranty. My Western Digital which is 5 months newer has pristine S.M.A.R.T. results.
The Hitachi had a powered on time of 2.7 years, the WD 2.2
Running RAID0 as well, so glad I decided to buy an external drive for Windows backup last year, I have a full system image I can restore from. I'd have been so butthurt if I lost all my music and saved games.
