Hitachi raid0 or 1x Raptor ?

Hi all,

Currently contemplating a new hdd and been looking at the possibility of a Raptor for speed and seen a few benchies that looked quite good until i ran one of my own, Now i'm thinking i should raid a pair of these after seing the burst rate. :confused:

i'm guessing/hoping i'd get an average of around 75 MB/s

What do you think?
 
Standard average: 55-58Mb/s
Raptor 36GB: 55Mb/s
Raptor 74GB: 65-70Mb/s
Raptor 150GB 75-80MB/s.

Your burst is fine, it's your average that is down.
Don't forget, RAID0 adds to the chance of failure of the array. A single raptor would be good unless you have a decent sized storage drive for backups/crucial media.

Yeah i realise it's a shedload to lose but i've got 5 other drives in the system so no shortage of space(if i tidy up that is!) and wont be short if i get another Hitachi 160 or raptor :D

That benchie with the hitachi is the same 160 i'm running by the looks of the stripe name 153.38 is the same as the size of my drive, so if thats accurate then i'm happy to go with that option as my mobo is a DFI NF4 Ultra-D with probably tha same NF4 Raid that produced that bench. i'd still like to try a Raptor sometime if only to say i tried one!
 
I've just bought 2 Hitachi 250GB (the T7K250 model with NCQ) and put them in a RAID-0 config. I get a burst read of 312MB/s and an average of 112MB/s. That's with 16k stripe and 4k NTFS cluster size.
 
Errm, this is MY forum Steves_pc! Muhaha :D.

The hitachi bench is not an accurate reflection as it was carried on on 64K stripe as against 16K for the Raptor. My raptors got 110MB/s on a 64K stripe (no bench, sorry). Hitachi's are very fast drives so you won't miss out not having one.

Swedish chief's looks just right so look at that for a comparison of Hitachi 1^ vs Raptor 16K.
