Hi,

I've just bought two of these 2TB external desktop drives to use on two different machines (both running windows 7)

One is my current machine and one is a new machine which I only received today and installed the OS on a short time ago.

Neither of the drives work, they're both coming up as USB Device Not Recognized.

I've done all the usual stuff like use windows to check for drives online, looked on the hitachi website and so on but can't get nothing to work. Any ideas? Thanks

OK, so both of them are powering up OK? Not making any odd noises?

Are you using USB3 on both and the cables which came with the drives?

Both powering up fine, neither making any noises or anything dodgy.

Using the supplied cable with both drives, though the port on the machine is USB 2.0.

Could this be the problem? I was under the impression it should work just at 2.0 speeds.

Thank you for your help

Sorry for the delay in response, been away for the bank holiday.

Thank you for your replies. I checked under the My Computer manage and the drive does not appear under disk drives, only under USB devices as an unknown device. This is turn leads to a problem when following Surveyor's link as the drive doesn't show up in Disk management so unfortunately I'm still stuck
