Hive, really??

I think this must be a misunderstanding.

There is an upfront cost for Hive, but no running subscription.

It can be expected to save you some money, maybe £100/yr if one didn't use their previous system properly, but the savings are usually less.

I'm sure I've seen some places advertising a rental type arrangement on smart thermostats with no cost upfront - could it be that?

£125 on amazon for the Hive heating jobby

Much rather than than a tenner a month, you need to have homecare for that offer too it seems.

Anyone installed themselves? Is it any more difficult than conecting it to the wifi network and the supplied hub affair?

There are 3 parts to the installation. A box wired into your boiler, a hub that is plugged into your network and the wireless thermostat. Had Hive installed by BG, didn't take them too long.

If your programmer backplate is compatible, you literally snap the old one off and stick the Hive one on. Takes 5 minutes.

If not, it may involve some rewiring. Do you have a combi or hot water cylinder?

If you post the make & model of your programmer I can tell you if its backplate is compatible.

oops haha xD

Dunno its attached to the boiler :p
Was the official wireless one that they said was to match the boiler.

Will the model number be ont he thermostat or is that different again?

Yes if you can see a number on the stat that'd help.

Otherwise grab a picture or two :)

Since it's a combi you're only looking for a call-for-heat wire that runs from the wireless receiver to the boiler.

When you say attached, is it a physically separate unit or integrated into the boiler? If the latter then it's going to be a case of rewiring the boiler for external controls which I'm not sure how to do, but the boiler manual should give details...

Was a panelly doddah that clipped onto the front of the boiler replacing the non wireless one.

The thermostat is a Worcester Digistat Optimiser, Takes 2 AA betteries.

Looks the same as this one:

Looking at your boiler manual:

it seems that you need to access the ST10 connector in the boiler.

You need to take a live from LS on the boiler to L on the hive backplate, then run a switched live from "CH ON" on the Hive to LS on the boiler. There will be a link between LR and LS which will have to be removed.

Please note! I'm not certain whether it's safe to take apart the boiler to access the terminals. I'm not gas safe registered. Please check and take care.

I had the same boiler at my old house with Hive and the installer had to take the boiler cover off for the wiring. Although this was about 2 years ago when Hive was still new.

My new house has some Dimplex boiler (they don't make boilers anymore) and it took them a while to figure it out, but it works well with Hive, I'll replace it with a WB or Valiant at some point in the future but it's actually a lot better than I expected as a boiler.

If I have a British Gas UP2 programmer (rebadged Drayton I think) then I assume the Hive install is a really simple task?

It's a standard size so you don't have to surface mount it. Easier said than done if you have solid walls.

Edit: Ignore that, thinking about the wrong product.
