Hey Dudes

Just completed HL2 and Ep1 and 2 and really want to go back to HL1 again and play through them all. I used to have HL1 but cant find it anywhere so I will buy it again from steam but, what version?

Is source INDENTICAL in everyway apart from the graphics? Does it have any bugs in that the orginal didnt? Or...is source the way to go?

Thanks

Half-Life: Source is a straight port, lacking any new content or the Blue Shift High Definition pack. However, it does take advantage of vertex and pixel shaders for more realistic water effects, as well as Half-Life 2's realistic physics engine. They also added several other features from Half-Life 2, including improved dynamic light-maps, vertex maps, ragdolls, and a shadowmap system with cleaner, higher resolution, specular texture and normal maps, as well as utilization of the render-to-texture soft shadows found in Half-Life 2's Source engine, along with 3D skybox replacements in place of the old 16-bit colour pre-rendered bitmap skies. The Half-Life port possesses many of the Source engine's graphical strengths as well as control weaknesses that have been noted in the Source engine.

I too finished HL2, Ep1 and Ep2 and wanted to go back to HL1. Just couldn't get into it as it's so dated.

So I'm in the unfortunate position of waiting for Black Mesa to be released/confirmed as vapour-ware.

All Ive heard and seen is that HL source has better looking water, and thats it. Other than that everything looks more or less the same.

Also according to steam HL and HL:source are the same price (5.99).

Bar water effects I haven't noticed much difference. Best off waiting for Black Mesa mod release if it ever gets there.

I've finished HL2 3-4 times. The episodes once each but never got round to playing HL1 source. This time I'm doing a full set and I'm currently about 2/3 into HL1. If they do announce episode 3 as rumoured, this will work out pretty good:p

Yeah it's quite dated now. The game picks up when you start 'apprehension' just after 'on a rail'
