HL2: Episode 1: HORRIBLE game!

+

commentary.
hospital section.
non-intrusive hdr.
easy system requirments.

-

boring mavity gun centric.
1/3rd of the game in the dull citadel.
end section has you running back and forth, destroys the sense of progression.
tries to be too horror at times making it feel as contrived as doom 3.

The hospital scene was awesome. Loved that part of Ep. 1.

Wasn't as fun as HL2, and I especially hated going back and fourth for the refugees during the ending. But I did enjoy the ending, seeing the Citadel explode and the escape pods come flying overhead. Was awesome.

I am really looking forward to Ep. 2. Gonna be great! :D

Yep, HL2 Episode 1 is one of the games I did not finish as I just lost interest.

I'm the opposite to that, HL2EP1 has been one of the few games lately that I have actually completed!

I have a bit of a passion for the HL series though, I think its one of the best if not the best series of games ever made. Decent storyline, graphics, atmosphere etc right from HL1 though... Roll on Ep2! :D

are you serious? its the best fps ever made.

Deadly serious. HL2 was a pile of pants and EP1 is as episodic content, almost a complete failure.

Have any episodic content games actually made it past the second episode?

They're charging a chunk of money for a complete series of many episodic content games *SiN for example...* and then only produce one episode!

HL2 EP1 was released on June 1st 2006.... Following 2 episodes were meant to be released over the following year. Aren't they doing well.

Half Life was groundbreaking. HL2 went over the same ground again, but not as good, EP1 was just a cash in and is a public funded technical demo.

I thought it was pretty good, although the citadel sections were a bit dull.

What set this game aside from the crowd was the attention to detail, reminded me of Max Payne 2 in that regard. I don't mind short games if they provide a very intense, glorious experience.

Yes, Sam & Max is now practically through a whole series and each review seems to be getting better and better - I'm going to buy it once the whole series is out

Just started playing through it, still in the Citadel, I hate the blue grav gun but I love that everything feels more scripted (in a good way), more cinematic and the characters seem to have improved and I feel for them more, the world also seems more bileavable that it was before.
