FarCry, but only just.
I think the visuals in both games were truly awesome but i found FarCry to feel more immersive. I guess it was because it was the only pc game that i had at the time and i had just built my new rig so it was all that i was doing on the pc. With HL2, however, i had bought it along with a load of other games and so ended up not getting into it as much as i ended up taking breaks to play the other games.
I preferred the storyline in HL2 though, but FarCry still wins it as i keep wanting to go back to it whereas the drawn out water buggy level at the beginning of HL2 puts me off re-playing it.
