Well, I fired this up last night for the first time ever after deciding to make a real effort to stay out of the pub in the evenings (I'm currently living above a boozer while my house is renovated.... Not the smartest move!)

I decided against using Cinematic Mod and was pleasantly surprised at how the graphics haven't actually aged that much (plus I can play 1920x1200 with settings up really high).

OMG How did I miss this first time around? </facepalm>

I'm currently in the Sewer canal place (just after the rocket launcher thingy). :D

Thanks to the peeps that convinced me to buy this in a Steam sale ages ago! :p

One thing though, I'm a bit confused story-wise, especially with all the other-dimensional creatures being around; probably because I completed the first HL about 10 years ago and my memory is hazy. :(
 
Story-wise you're kind of dropped into it after years in stasis without a clue what's going on. Reading the billboards and listening to the announcements does a lot to fill you in.

It really does look fantastic for such an old game. I still haven't finished it mind you, but I'm pretty close. Finally :p

Hahaha... Doom was one of my first PC game experiences, 2 players over LAN! I've played all the classic stuff but for some reason I skipped HL2. I think maybe because the first one got so damned hard and frustrating towards the end.
 
My favourite game ever! The sewer canal level is the worst in the game. If it's your first play-through then take your time exploring etc but there isn't much to see on that level.
 
Definitely one of my favourite games ever - such good storytelling and the characters are great. Wish they would do more with it (EP2 or HL3) - would be huge!

It was the most excited I'd been for a game's release when HL2 was coming out. :p:cool:
 
I go back to HL2 every now and then for a quick blast. Everytime I pick it up I seem to play it for a little while then look at the clock and realise 4 hours has passed. T'is epic.

reinstalled HL2 on steam 2 days ago, not played it since it first came out . getting some major motion sickness from it, i cant remember feeling ill last time i played it, only other game i had that was in Blue Shift and Wipeout. great game tho :D
 
Ravenholm is the best part of the game by far (not that the rest is bad its just ravenholm is really really good).
