Its a load of money for not much performance. ;)
Your depreciation on the mods would be astronomic vs the still high 35K depretiation on the gt3 over say 3 years.

Still more than modding but no longer worlds of difference.

Rovers dont have this many people drooling over them do they now

I drool over a 220 coupe everytime I see one, they still dont look retro imo. Just not that trusting of the engine and my own skills to handle any problem it might have.

I'd rate that Porsche over any modded lesser beast, its NA and that is pretty much unparalled. Not loving the looks that much though, 959 for me please

Agreed. Remember when Best Motoring tested a McLaren F1 against a mega souped up Supra? (They also do this a lot with Ferraris and Porsches against souped up Japanese cars)
The supercars win every time, they usually annihilate the tuned car.
in a straight line iirc

Oh dear i so wanted a 996 Gt3, now its been superceded :p Wow

That is a machine and a half, i think i'd be much happier getting a 996 Gt3 2nd hand for half the money though.

I dont see why not, If I had say 30k to spend on my MR2 im sure You could have better handling, looks and even a quality interior.

Now your just being silly ;).

The big plus point of Porsches has always been their useability when compared to other such supercars. And with this version it looks absolutely fantastic to :).

I am sure I am not alone in saying....
'OH no not another Porka'
the expression... would not give it garage space springs to mind

Superlative, maybe... still looks like a turd

Doesn't stop it being able to wipe the floor with most cars though does it?

The 996 GT3 was as quick as a 360 Challenge stradale yet had considerably less power.

As for the other comments about "oh I could mod my car and it would be as quick". That's just silly imo. Most people buy cars like this for the simple reason they've probably wanted a new 911 since they were a kid.

When you buy a supercar it ain't about looking cool to spotty little chavs in there Sup'd up Novas and Saxos is it?

You might be able to Mod something like an MR2 to be as quick in a straight line but I doubt it would cut it in the corners for the simple fact the 997s chassis dynamics are about the best in the business.

well, if u can afford one,a nd get bored ive no doubt someone will strap some turbo's on for you. and then where will the mr2 be? fading out of the rear view i should imagine

And took the same time to cross the Isle of Man as the 500hp M6 ;)

hehe i swear that was just a normal carrera with the carbon brakes?

that looks awesome, loved the 996 but that is just an improvement, porsche designers may seem lazy, but as people have said dont fix what isnt broken!

love the way they always release awesome photos too, fitting nicely on my desktop :D

People seem to forget that Porsche have tried to be different in the past and it hasn't worked for them, and it nearly took them under. 914 anyone. The Boxster saved Porsche, and the design of the new 996 wasn't universally liked. the 997 is more retro is better liked. Lets hope it doesn't have the engine defects of the boxster/966. In case you don't know the engines go pop. 12-14k for an engine? Ouch! Still they seem to be decent about replacing them. Personally I like the 993, 944 and the Boxster, Cayman and the 997 the best.

Nice photos for sure!

That was a standard 348 Gts. Vs the Red Suped up Toyota Supra. yes?

The 348 as standard was 300hp. That supra was around double that WITH ***. It was a stupid comparison. Ofcourse the Ferrari would get beaten. The fact the Ferrari kept up in the movie (only to get beaten when he presses the *** hissssssss blur blur picture button) proves how stupid the movie was.

That supra wouldn't have a hope in hell of beating a 360 or 430 or even a 997 GT3. Plus there's also the fact that u'r talking $80k+ of mods on that car. Half of which have no beneficial improvement on performance. Infact all those body mods will more than likely increase the aerodynamics by stupid amounts.
