would you..

1. sell the 7600gt and get a x1900 and keep a crap ugly beige 17" crt monitor

2. or keep the gc and get a sexy 19" lcd

Keep the 7600GT and aint untill next year for the DX10 gfx cards to come out

Of course, and it's not going to be called Direct X10 afaik, can't remember where I read it.

Yes, PCI-E is the way of the future, good sir. I too would sexify my desktop with a high-resolution TFT monitor if I were in your position.

DirectX is just Microsoft's API for making OpenGL calls and a load of other operations. It must be supported in hardware and software and it will only be available in Windows Vista.

Zefan, I've never heard of them dropping the DirectX name. Are you sure?

Sexify :D yes, do. CRT's are just pants.

I seem to be the only CRT fanboy left around here.
IMO, TFT's although nice for most games are noticably worse if playing games at high framerates. (100+)
The one I had, but promptly returned, had pretty bad backlight bleed also, so watching movies was out the window. Added to the possibility of stuck & dead pixels.. keep the CRT and buy an X1900XT :)

Yeah, they do allow for lower resolutions. However, I think your card should be able to do a bit better than 1024 x 768.

It depends what frame rate he's after though. I know I can't play games at less than 60fps, especially first person shooters, without being irritated by the framerate droppage.

On CRT's, I'd recommend reading that thread mentioned by kizz and noting WJA's comments. Also, if you have space, use it and keep the CRT! :p

CRTs display colours better than TFTs do too :D But that is probably the only good arguement for them. I love my ImageQuest Q995 19" CRT but its hogging too much space...

*saving for sexy 19 or 20" screen*

I use a pair of large, high quality CRTs at work at my workstation and I find them to be very good. However, I'm betting the OP's monitor is not very good. The difference between his current monitor and a new TFT would be pronounced.

I'm just saying that his current video card can cope until at least DX10 where the new monitor will last a lot longer.
