Ok i'm not tech minded so i need a straight answer :)
I want a new monitor, i currently have a 1080 27" which is mainly used for gaming (Rift atm) would i get more benifit from increased resolution or increased Hz.
things i'm looking to improve are motion blur in fast moving warfronts (BG's) and increased detail @ 27" now i know i cant have both, so i guess the question is would i get more benifit from 120Hz or 1440 res ?
Thanks for your thoughts

More resolution will mean sharper images, but also require more graphics processing so your frame rates may suffer. 120Hz may mean a smoother image, but you can get that from decent 60Hz monitors with low response times. Do you know what frame rate you are getting at the moment? Which graphics card are you using? I recently bought this 1080p 27'' monitor and get a great picture with no noticeable blur on Black Ops using a HD 5870. Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black What's your current monitor's specs and how old is it? Do you have a budget in mind?

Looking at your sig with 580SLi you will REALLY benefit from 120Hz. You must be kicking out hundreds of frames per second in all games. As such 60Hz will be really holding you back. I'd go for 120Hz.;)

I am going to 120Hz as my o/c'ed 480 (similar to a single 580) is usually in the hundreds of FPS on full settings. Your SLi setup must be giving much more!

Thx for the replys ....surprisingly my frame rates with all ultra on is mid 60-70 fps in major city's and 120-170 in low populated area's which is more of what i expected with 580's basically its a toss up between the Samsung S27A950D and Hazro HZ27WA 10-Bit 27" really undecided as yet smooth frame rates would be nice but so would high res :)

IMO for fast paced games you go for 120Hz. If you play slower paced games where fractions of a seconds are not important (RPG's, RTS etc) then go for a better looking higher res screen. It depends where your fav games lie. I'm a first person shoot fan so need 120Hz and will sacrifice settings to keep my frame rate at that 100+fps.
