Had a few things to do with several departments this morning, phoned each one in turn, was answered within a couple of rings, everyone I spoke to was pleasant and helpful. All sorted in 10 minutes. Maybe the civil service cut backs have bucked everyone's ideas up... I suppose I should wait until I know everything was done as it was supposed to be before I celebrate

Cool story, brethren etc

I have a cheque payment pending with them for overpaid SA Tax. Checking online it seems I may be waiting months and months.

When they want it they want it NOW when they owe you its yeah whatever 'n whenever

Cool story bro,

I will copy and paste this,

Print it with Microsoft word,

Take the print off to a stone mason,

Get it etched in granite,

I will then buy a giant safe,

Place the granite in the safe,

Bury it,

So hopefully one day some aliens find it and can share in said cool story when I'm gone.

I made two calls to my tax office in January and they were answered promptly and as with you sorted in no time at all. Last year it took four calls and lots of waiting before I had a satisfactory answer. A tax overpayment was dealt with quite quickly as well. Maybe it has improved.

Yeah they gave me back the tax I paid in December last month, really surprised as last time it happened it took till the end of the tax year to fix...

Not sure whats going on, this is too efficient!

Depends when you ring, try after work ours, then it'll take you a while to get through..

Because of the high number of people they're talking to, some of them can be a bit offish, some don't want to help..

We rang in the morning again and were greeted by a friendly woman who quickly answered the phone.

My experience with HMRC was them sending me a letter saying I was owed nearly £500 in tax and that I would get a cheque, then another one saying the original letter was wrong and in fact I owed them £15. I called them and they said that was wrong too, and everything was in fact in order. It was all a bit "what the...".
