HMV Finally closing down for good?

Ridiculous high street rent agreements made during the boom years are part of the reason for this, along with falling sales due to online media.

However, as a former employee, I'd have to say it was usually pretty poorly run.

I've been waiting for a iPod Nano 16GB order i made before christmas to come. Its always showing as out of stock. Worst is that most of the cost was paid via a voucher due to HMV owed me £125.

Just seen this today

Looks like a fire-sale is starting tomorrow

They started it today, blue cross everything is an extra 25% off... (got a newish cd for a fiver which was good).

Not quite the fire sale yet, Masters of Reality was £12 post discount. When they sell that to me for 3 quid they are defiantly going under.

Shame their pre christmas sale of all Mogwai albums for £3 each hasn't carried on :( need more Mogwai.

Poor old dear wanted a phone number to complain as he suggested ordering online. He was trying to be helpful but many elderly have no idea about ordering online.

I don't think it's a valid excuse. Just because your old doesn't mean you can't keep up with the times. Well so long as you have all your faculties.

I work at a gambling company and have often spoke to 80 year olds who can follow my instructions on the web site quicker than some 30 year olds.

Look at HMV's share price over 5 years.

It's actually getting quite scary out there.

Popped in yesterday to use a £20 voucher I had and really struggled to find anything I wanted to buy!

They don't seem to be stocking many new games, just loads of pre-owned at high prices.

Got a game in the end although they couldn't find the disc so sold me a pre-owned version at the same price as a "favour". Wow lucky me.....

Feel bad for the staff if they go under as they were helpful but I can't see it lasting long in its current state.

Completely agree with this, the games selection has been poor for some time now.

I will be sad to see them go, I like wandering around shops and browsing. Still, might pick up some bargains in the possible sales

Once HMV goes there's nothing decent left on the high street. Game is awful other than as a place for parents to go and get stuff for their kids now. Waterstones is about the only interesting place left.

The two HMV's I visited are always busy, probably because they're the only two selling entertainment.

I have to say the mega store I visited is usually packed full of deals and people are always buying, you can see they are buying the special deals, £3 dvds, etc which seems like a heavy burden on the store to keep up, things change literally on a daily basis.

If they do go into administration it will be a shame to see them go, e-orders are all well and fine but sometimes its nice to actually go into the store instead of sitting at the pc in your dirty shirt and clicking!

Our local highstreet still has a JJB sports that closed 15 years ago and has never been leased since. It has a 'for let' sign in the window, surely it would be better for these places to be leased out even if for just a punitive amount?

Eventually yes, but it needs properly regulating and I can only guess no one has a plan yet whilst some stores are still operating...

When the high street is completely empty everything can be revalued and then we'll pay less for things like leasing retail units.

Would be brilliant if things went full circle and high streets get back decent bakers (not greggs!) and butchers shops, fruit/ fishmongers etc

most of them still exist in the market area of a city centre.

maybe markets are below some ocukers though unless its the farmers market
