\/\/ho uses a strap-on here? I do, at least for my GPU ;)

Simple but effective. Did similiar thing with mine but glued a fan minus the housing to the braceplate of the vf700. Cools the ram nicely from the rear.

nice, but from the pictures what i see, have you just rested it on the card its self? thats bad it could damage it.

i did the same sort of thing with my old x850xt.

but i made some metal brackets for the origonal mounting holes on the card, so that the fans wasnt touching the card its self. and i added two 9.2cm blue led silent fans on both sides. i removed the old x850xt cooler, and on the gpu side, i made a copper bracket for the 850xt mounting holes then added another two 9.2cm fans.

unfortunetly the gpu its self never dropped any temps, but the memory clocked about 100mhz higher if i remember correctly. it was a few years ago :)

I've got one of those P4 coolers sitting on my desk that I've been itching to do something useful with for awhile, as its fairly quiet and has a good airflow...

unfortunatly with my GX2 even if it did help from the other side, it would only bring one board's temps down (tho it would be the board that runs warmer :) )... gotta find a way to cool both...

Nice mod! Although I can't see it scoring 8000 in 3dmark06 :p (typo for 05?)

He's got it strapped on with 2 cable ties.

yep you are right and in fact the 8000 is a typo for 3dmark03, I had written all that info pretty tired and then messed up on the last one hehe

the fan bracket is 'resting' per se on the card but its not damaging the soldered connections, held on by zip ties
I find the fan to add negligable noise to the system, I had it turned on in my hand and while I could hear it, close the door on the case and it's gone

I thought those P4 coolers where highly regarded as being very very noisy

you are right...

I have a few I've pulled from various systems over the last couple of years and on full speed some of them sound like a washing machine on full cycle... however all of them are whisper quiet on lower speeds and some aren't too bad on full speed... this one in particular is pretty quiet even on full.

Hmmm never thought of using that way to reduce temps, thanks ill try it, i also have a lot of fans still floating around somewhere including few of those p4 ones, ill attach one to the back of my 6800gs too :) .

Good idea....

I'm watercooling my raddy850xpe, and already have big ramsinks made from cut up P1 coolers. Now with some low RPM fans on there, it should help things a bit, as my case doesn't have too much airflow being watercooled.
