@Retro6 - put out an advert as follows: "Henry hoover up for grabs, selling as it's collecting dust"
Seriously though, I have a Keter shed outside with a lock. Anything I don't use in the house goes into the shed. If I remember there is something in there that I need again, I'll get it out. If it's not been 6 months however, I'll go back to the shed and probably sell / give / throw items. If it's been a year, the 'probably' becomes a 'definite'.
Things I've got rid of:
- old school work
- things I made that are now broken
- any faulty tech (sell as spares / repairs)
- keep boxes to a minimum
- keep paperwork to the last 1-5 years depending what it is
- newspapers
- magazines (sell them if possible, I made a bit of money this way)
- greetings cards (scan them in!)
- worn out clothes, with holes, faded t-shirts etc
- multiple bedding sets and multiple towel sets
- food labels that are out of date
The most difficult one is probably books, music, videos and old toys. For me, I music-Magpie'd my CD collection (250+) then went Spotify. Books went to Audible service or MP3 player. Videos (DVD/blu-ray), not done this yet but I'll probably CEX them then find 1 or 2 streaming services with the most TV/movie coverage. PC video games is already digital as it's on Steam. Only my Nintendo Switch 2 remains physical. For 'toys' it's mostly just collectables that live in bookcases where my books used to be.
