Hoax Microsoft Scammers!!

Was speaking to a guy at work about these the other day as he had started getting a few calls. They were able to quote the service tag number off his Dell PC to him so I'm guessing that at least one group have got access to a bunch of data from a Dell database.

If the media (newspapers etc etc) reported this scam a little more widely and people got a little more savvy to it the 'crime' would be drastically reduced.

I guess as the human race, we are all a little gullible.

I think the best thing to do, if you could be bothered, would be to play the part of the worlds most computer illeterate person. No matter what they ask you to do, no matter how simple, make them talk you through it step by step. And when they want personal details, make stuff up.

Been there and done that mate. Trust me it not worth the effort, first few times i led them on but after that if you bite they keep coming back.

It was quite funny first they were from Microsoft, then when i said i only had a MAC they were from Apple, and when i mentioned I knew a Policeman and they then said they have a police branch *in their department" which would arrest me for wasting their time.

It's good fun winding them up when they call try to see how long you can make the call last, I have got to a little over 10 mins before they hung up on me.

That would have been interesting

The quickest way to get rid is to say sorry I am not going to fall for your scam do you think I am stupid they hang up straight away
