Hi

When riding in rain with a balaclava on I would like a bit more air flow in to my helmet.

Having the visor open on the first click is too much as the gap at the bottom is about 2cm and rain also comes in from the top running down the inside of the visor.

What can I use just to keep the visor open slightly to let some air in?

Dont you have vents? on top & bottom of helmet and ones at the top of visor?

If the visor is misting up then look into a pinlock system, worth every penny.

I have a Shark S900

I have just ordered a pinlock visor for it to solve the misting problem but I find that with a balaclava on even with vents open it gets a bit warm in there!

Ride faster, ha ha!!

2cm is about average. Most of my lids are the same. I get less rain coming in from the top when I'm moving, but it happens on all of them.
If your lid is old, you want to try opening it up (assuming you have things like removable lining) and cleaning out the vents.
Also, sit more upright on the bike to get above the screen's 'air bubble', tilt your head up a touch, or try opening your collar a bit. All these should increase your airflow a little.

I have the S900, this one in fact: http://www.getgeared.co.uk/shark_helmets_s900_c_creed

The first click is just under 2cm and lets a lot of air through. However, i have no problem with having it closed and the vents open. It has pinlock and comes with 2 screens for a clear ride to work on a cold day like today :)

I also where a snood/necky but it's a bit tight as the helmet is a good fit and has the neck cushions.

I do like this helmet, great for the money. The flip down visor is a bit pants though, smacks my nose when i deploy it and isn't that dark.

just open very slightly so theres a small tiny gap,i do that when its heavy rain and badly misted,

most of the time its fine

Easy enough to take the visor out and trim the bits hitting your nose. The (lack of) darkness seems to be a very common issue with built in sun visors from the factory, my Caberg Ego which I use for summer riding is the same. There may be a darker aftermarket one available though.

Does pinlock work then?

Being new I didn't even know about it and my helmet it compatible to about to buy one for £27 quid - that about the right price? Suppose it differs from brand to brand.

Pinlock is awesome, I wouldn't have a lid without it. Also, my visor first click is less than a centimetre (Shoei Multitech) and comfortable most times of the year.

Yep, I wouldn't ride without one. Makes a huge difference.

Brilliant I'll get one ordered thanks.

I've just been riding around with the visor down but not locked so just resting on the bottom. Small gap but extra ventilation. I have all vents open but I have a very hot head :p

Pinlock visor fitted & got rid of balaclava for neck thingy and now there is more fogging up an it's not too warm in helmet!

Thanks

That's what happens when you type on a phone!

Yes, no more fogging up now. All I need to get now is something like RainX to stop the heavy rain sitting on the outside of the visor.
