Hi all.

Has anyone ever gone on holiday on there own and used there love for photography as a viable reason to go out and enjoy life and explore new places?

I am thinking of doing the same in the future now that i am single and coming out of a marriage as things stand.

So many places i would love to visit and with my love for photography, i could potentially capture some amazing places and people too!

Am i nuts in suggesting this? or is it quite a common feat for fellow passionate photographers?

The downside with going with friends or family from my experience is that i cant dedicate a day or time to take my photos as it can effect the group i am with.

Cne that many times. Photography is often best done alone to give you time to work in peace, under your timeline, with your schedule.

Your friends/partner probably won't enjoy getting up at 4:30am every day for photogahing sunrises and wildlife, or spending a couple of hours for the Moose to walk not the right framing.

I spent 3 days alone in Singapore , it was nice to do what I wanted ,when I wanted and go where I wanted without the need to consider others but I did get bored having no one there to talk to and share experiences with

Not something I'd do again in a hurry

Yep, I'm planning on doing something similar at some point. Haven't decided yet, but Vietnam Thailand Africa or Italy/Amalfi coast.

Also saving up for a Paramotor to fly around the country, as well as maybe some parts of Europe.

Going to visit friends who are still studying in Europe this year. Intend to spend at least one of the days in places just shooting. Long weekends in Europe are going to be very much my thing :)

Doesn't seem mad to me at all. Holidaying with a partner is a good reason to travel. Holidaying on your own is a different thing and just as relevant.

Massive advantages to being on you own ie if you want to hang around for the light to change or get up at stupid o'clock becuase you know the temple you spied yesterday will look perfect in the dawn light you can just do it. Downside is you might get a bit lonley but if you pick the right countries there will normally be some other poeple travelling alone or in small groups that you can go out with of an evening to top up the social tank.

Been to Australia 5 times on my own and In June/July this year I spent a month in the USA and traveled from San Francisco to Chicago via train. The benefit is you can do what you want when you want. You don't have to compromise with a group, or do what other people want to do.

Plus it means if you want to do sunrises/sunsets, or go to places that are off the tourist trail your not upsetting anyone else.

I know that! But going with family will be restrictive, whereas another photographer will be more willing to get up at 3am for 'that shot'!

Hehe true but i also like to have some alone time as well and meet up with random strangers particularly females hehe.

It would be a holiday where i take pics of some of the most beutiful places and to also socialise with different people and cultures if i can.

i am quite a quiet/shy person and want to change that a bit
