So I've just taken delivery of my new Beyerdynamic MMX 300 headset and am absolutely blown away by the sound quality compared to my old Creative Fatal1ty headset that recently gave up on me...

Now I'm mainly using these for gaming and music so my question is how do I get the absolute best experience with these things? Currently plugged in via front panel but will throw them direct into the mobo later as these won't be getting unplugged any time soon.

So guys what should I do with them?

Very good price for a very good headset. Doesn't make much sense to return them for DT990 + Modmic. You'd end up paying roughly £50 more and in my opinion wouldn't necessarily be in that much of a better position. MMX300 have a decent microphone. Maybe definology didn't realise you paid £100.

Shows how opinions differ. Another forum member got these after a recommendation and was disappointed. He might have been expecting all singing and dancing 5.1/7.1 effect stuff that you get from many headsets from Corsair etc. Can't please everybody 'n all that. :p

Anyway; could add a DAC/amp or a sound card. Depends what you'd want to spend and whether you want positional effects sound stuff or just prefer stereo with no effects. Your motherboard may already have that (positional effect stuff), depending on which one you have.

Am getting positional sound through the front panel, just no sub woofer which is fine.

I do play fps like pubg etc what's going to be best a day or a sound card?

A DAC will be just plain stereo with no effects.

You'd want some kind of sound card for positional sound, but if you're getting positional sound from your motherboard, then it may already have that; or it could be the game/s in question, as some do have built in positional sound.

Suppose it depends what motherboard you have. If it has something like Dolby Headphone or SBX prostudio then there'd be less need of a sound card.

I've had positional sound from mp3's YouTube and a few games... Still if I can get even better results I'm happy to spend a bit more

I got them for £99.95 thanks to Nik!

Oh yeah. £100 is a good price for the MX300. I thought you bought it at the retail price which appears to be at the £300 region according to Dr. Google :D

Very true love my beyerdynamics have a set of 990’s and T90’s love them both.

7.1 Sound card if your wanting the best surround for gaming and music. Well worth it in my opinion.

Sound card vs mobo is another nice step up and allow them to really shine, if you can afford one.

Virtual 7.1 on these gaming headphones is absolute junk in comparison.

SoundblasterX AE-5, or if you'd prefer an external solution; SoundblasterX G5.

If you'd rather spend less, then Soundblaster Z OEM for £60 is a decent choice.
