Home Assistant beginners

Ooops, forgot to add the link: https://handsonkatie.com/rfid-smart-paintings/

Think I've figured it out, though I'm still a bit fuzzy on using play with HA
Ah got you! ;)

Well shout if you need any help, think for Plex it'd just be changing the media play string to something like:

entity_id: media_player.plex_playermedia_content_type: MUSICmedia_content_id: '{ "library_name": "Music", "artist_name": "David Bowie", "album_name": "Greatest Hits", "track_name": "Starman" }'

Hopefully all above is relatively simple to understand, but PM if any questions! :D

My GivEnergy system seems to periodically stop talking to HA... A reboot of the HA hardware seems to sort it.

I do still wonder if moving from a pi 3 to a more powerful system would help...

thanks for this i have just bought the mini r4 for my outside lights :)
Let me know how you get on with it? Didn't realise the r4 had been released, nice smaller size and the detach relay function is pretty cool, still only 2.4gHz WIFI though :p

Think this is potentially a really stupid question and i'm missing something extremely obvious, but I have a Harmony Hub with a few profiles to turn on TV, SkyQ, Shield, Amp and PS4 and since switching to Harmony Hub my previous automations that I shout out to my Google Nest Hubs ie Turn on Sky Q (turn on sky, tv and amp) no longer seem to work and it'll just default to turning the sky box on. How can I set this up to be an automation through HA?

I've got one for the Fire 10...

Hopefully you might get some ideas from this and obviously PM me if any extra questions/bits not clear! :D
I've been looking at doing this with a spare Fire & I have knocking about. I've got it set up with Fully Kiosk but have read a few bits about tyhe fire tablets not being ideal for the software for various reasons, including not being able to disable the lock screen, is this something you've had with yours? Or have you found a way round this?

Can’t speak for Katie but I’ve got Fully on a Fire 8 and I’ve not had an issues since I set it up. Fully is excellent and it’s worth scrolling through the numerous options available to get it working the way you want. For example, I have my screen turn off after 5 mins but reappear when motion is detected. I’ve had it set up for so long I can’t remember is this is a Fully thing or a HA thing. Also look at a HA HACS integration called Browser Mod which will help you achieve what you want.

I've got Fully up and running and displaying HA which is great but I can't disable screen lock because of something in Fire OS. It's not a massive issue if I have to swipe to unlock but just wondered if this was something that could be easily overcome.

I did consider flashing it with Lineage OS which I have on a Nexus 7 2013 and is running nicely with Fully.... but that seems like a lot of work... lol

Definitely look into Browser Mod. I've never had the screen lock on me and, as I said previously, Fully activates the screen on motion detection at which point Fully will display a Home Assistant page.

Fire tablets are not ideal for a variety of reasons, like the lock screens etc, but think you'll find tutorial on my site solves that with the various software solutions!! (Firetoolbox is awesome!)

No issues at all on mine - basically just works like an ordinary tablet!

I got.it set up on the fire 7 but the dashboards are so slow to populate the data - no idea why the tablet should be slow as this would surely be a networking thing? The same dashboards show up near instantly on my phone and desktop.

Oh, and the battery died overnight - so yeah the fire7 isn't going to be the display I ultimately use!!

If they have integrations then an automation script is probably easiest. If you always want them all on, then you could use the TV as a trigger - i.e. when TV changes state to on then switch on X device.

I'm sure there will be integrations for sky q, shield and ps4 but the amp might be a more involved one. If that's just a case of powering on you could use a smart plug for it.

How old is the tablet? I run Fire tablets no issues at all. Remove all the bloat and rubbish with Firetoolbox then use fully kiosk browser to run the dashboard.

Regarding battery, it’s never going to last long on battery and being permanently on charge isn’t the best either. I’ve removed the batteries in mine and hard wired them in a way that makes the tablet still think it has a battery and is on charge.
