Lads,

Is there anyone on the forums who knows what their doing when it comes to home CCTV installation? I'm doing one for a mate and need some help with connecting the dvr to his router.

Thanks

Yes. Here is the long and short of it.

1) I'm enabling DHCP in the 'network' section of the main screen. I'm recording the IP address.
2) I'm writing down the HTTP port, which is 8080
3) I'm going into my router settings, and enabling port forwarding to above IP address and port.
4) In the meye app, I'm putting my external IP address in, the port 8080, and the password for the box.
5) When I click on cameras, all I get is 'buffering' and no video.

I've seen online in several videos that this is also a 'mobile' port, but in the settings to his DVR, there is no reference to it anywhere whatsoever.

The fact you're able to access the DVR's web server is at least a good step achieved.

What happens if you try the web server locally? - if you have the same issue locally, then i suspect we're down the route of the cameras not streaming properly. If they do stream locally, then we've got a problem streaming outside the network. How fast is the upload connection?

You may need to forward the RTSP ports too. DHCP may cause you issues, ideally you will have the camera/dvr set to static addressing - either via direct IP configuration or by creating static DHCP leases (dependent on router).

Which model of camera/DVR?

It's a Chinese make, something he got off Ebay. Maybe C-Win, or C-Vin, or something like that. It's nothing I've ever heard of, put it that way.

I have VERY basic knowledge of networking, and are struggling with this.

The UI for the box is exactly the same as the guy uses in this video. I get to the point where he says record the HTTP port, and then the mobile monitor port, except mobile monitor port isn't there.

Can't get help from manufacturer because their help desk page is all in Chinese.

I had one of those cheap Chinese routers (KKMoon) and it just refused to work with standard android CCTV software.
I was forced to use their XMEye software which goes through some sort of web server.

my other half works in a chippy however and both sets of software work with their cameras.
