Hi all,

Next door got broken into, so think its time to lock n load with the cctv cameras all over!

Just looking for about 3 good cameras (inc.night vision) hooked up to a DVR(saved to hard drive) with connectivity to smartphone/network etc.

Any tips on cameras or DVR's to lookout for, theres quite a few cheap bundles on auction websites but not sure if they are worth the money, and might end up being really shoddy?

Don't bother.

Spend your money on a really decent insurance policy and make sure you lock all your doors and windows when you go out.

pretty much this, got broken into last month. Had over £2k worth of tools nicked.
Perfect cctv images of the ****** that did it and a partial number plate, report burglary to police and tbh they couldn't be arsed. showed them the cctv and the lack of caring could be visually seen.
police don't want to arrest burglars its seems...

Prevention is better, I would put the money towards securing the premises than some video footage of guys wearing balaclavas.

Echo the above statements, but if you are going down the CCTV route, i can heartily recommend the Swann kits (cheap at Costco) nice Android and web interfaces and the bundled cameras are pretty decent.

I understand what you guys are saying, but theres only so much that can be prevented, they used a crowbar or something to break the outside fence next door to give access round the back. Not sure what else can be done, doors and windows are fairly secure.

I guess its more of a deterrent than anything else.

With a properly secure metal door even the police can't break through it, nevermind some chavs.

Have you thought about a decent intruder alarm system? By that I mean a professionally installed one, rather than a DIY one, with remote monitoring or at least a remote call facility so that someone is warned when there's an activation.

Post the pics here
Let ocuk detectives work on it
Find culprit
Burn his house down and roast some marshmallows
......
Profit

Problem with remote call facility is that it normally comes with a subscription. Second you cancel the subscription they stop giving you that service...

How about IP cameras? simple to set up no cables needed and easy to view on your phone, i hear edimax have a good range and ive had personal experience with the network software.. its simple stuff and with it being an IP camera you get a lot more features remotely, worth a thought

Look at something in the Y-cam range. Ive just ordered one of their 'bullets' Decided not to go down the HD route as didnt think that nearly double the price was worth the cost for what i needed.

Look at panasonic also (i have the BL-C230 for indoor usage.

Forget CCTV, buy an air rifle and a machete/really big knife, just make sure when you shoot they're not running away
