Want to get a total new Home Cinema and am first looking at the speakers.

Was considering the B&W 684 or B&W 685's. However, these seem to be hard to come by, on the Internet anyway.

To combine with a Yamaha DSP-AX863SE AV amplifier, not included in the budget.

However, there might be better speaker packages out there for a £1000-1,600 speaker budget.

This will of course be used for watching films in great quality sound (where possible )

Thanks for the advice.

James

Got a B&W setup here with an Onkyo 605. 'tis awesome - linky.

Go down to a local Sevenoaks, they should have a wide range of great kit - the 684s are fantastic but were out of my budget, and the 683s blew my socks off but OTT for movies wih a decent sub unless you have a ballroom-size room ;)

SVS subs are also very much worth looking at instead of my REL :)

Got an AV amp or do you need that as well.

Get an SVS sub, they are the daddies these days and are very affordable. Check out B&W speakers, but also Monitor audio bronze or silver range, Q acoustic, or even XTZ (see avforums speaker section, but could be over budget).]

You need to have a listen to some combos as some people prefer different sound signatures.

AMP: Check out an onkyo, yamaha.
SPEAKERS: As above.
SUB: SVS !!!!!111
CABLES: Mark grant interconnect and cheap van damme blue 1.5mm for speaker cable.

svs and xtz = win.

But you need a capable amp for the XTZ. Will blow the tannoy out of the water !

do yourself a favour and listen to some Monitor Audio GS10's + Arcam gear ...maybe the AVR350.

they gell together very nicely, i heard the B&W 68x series and was largely dissapointed......a very correct sounding speaker but totally boring next to the MA's.

DO NOT buy any speaker blind, you must audition a few at least.

Concur with the MA + arcam combo, always sounded good to me :D

But definately have a listen, what some of us rave about might sound crap to you.

Is there a package for the Monitor Audio GS10? i.e. Floor standers, centers, sub, rears?

yeh there is, prepare to talk to your bank manager though :) the centre alone retails at over 500 quid.

you find plenty GS10 popping up on auction for a nice price, and i can vouch for the GS20 floorstanders too they are very very sweet.
