Sorry but just HOW?

No claims, no significant changes, no local flooding, no local crime changes yet.....

Mine did the same.

Did panic a little to start with, but soon found a better deal than them and got decent cashback.

The company may be slimming down a little.

Standard practice for insurance these days. They send you a ridiculous renewal, hope you're too lazy to shop elsewhere and let it auto-renew.

Just go online and get some new quotes.

You no longer match their target customer profile I suspect, so they've given you a 'go away' price.
That's my guess - got another quote for £808 so that seems reasonable.

Was wondering if it had anything to do with paying off our mortgage this year?

I must be a poor relation but pay £240ish each year. Three bed semi in Leafy Cheshire

I think it depends a lot on the degree of coverage and the provider, entirely subjective. I could get decent cover for my place for around £300, but pay much more than that with M&S for their Premier policy which has no limit on contents, and fully covers our large collection of high value camera kit, my bikes and includes cover away from home.

One insurance company I follow spent almost 2 years pricing people so they wouldn't renew in an area that was becoming very fire prone. Meant they missed very large pay-outs which may have bankrupted them being a relatively small company.

They should have just gone down the route of, we cannot renew the policy.

Although if you did renew at that price then potentially they would have won

Very dry forest? Succession of failing local businesses? Sectarian arson attacks?
