Hi all,

I need some advice. We have a ground floor flat and need some home insurance. It is council rented, so do we need building cover or just contents? Who is the best person to go with who offers monthly payments?

Anything I should look out for?

Thanks

Check the levels of cover carefully when comparing quotes, most policies don't include accidental damage (stains on carpets & furniture etc) as standard. The main things to look for are:
  • What's the single item cover limit
  • Are you covered for valuables (phones, jewelery etc) outside the home
  • Cover for frozen food in the event of a power failure
  • New for old replacement
  • Check what the company's security requirements are

Is this a lot?

Annual premium: £297.15

Cover Type: Contents

Sums Insured:

* Buildings No
* Contents £18600

Options Selected:

* Accidental Damage Buildings - N
* Accidental Damage Contents - Y
* Family Legal Protection - Y
* Personal Possessions cover - £2500
* Voluntary excess - £0

It depends on the area but I'm getting about £45K of contents plus £8K of personal possessions cover for slightly less than you've been quoted but that's for a third floor flat in a nice quiet seaside town.

Who's that quote from?

It seems slightly high to me, looks like a direct line quote?
They have always been the cheapest for me but I guess it depends on the area.

Im in a ground floor flat in cox green, maidenhead which is an SL6 post code. That quote is from tesco.
