Home NAS Advice

Or go with a full PC server which can run anything you want.. There's a 16 bay hotswap case in MM right now that fits your requirement (budget, capacity) ;)

Or turn your Gaming PC into a combined NAS, Server, Router and Gaming system with UnRaid :)

I had that before, but it's definitely nicer having my storage/NAS separate from my PC tbh.

If nothing else I can leave my NAS running Plex, Sab, Sonarr, Couch all the time, and the idle power consumption would be far lower than my PC, also it's off in a cupboard elsewhere so I don't get annoyed by spinny hard drive noise.

I have a Synology which I would definitely recommend, for me it just works. Although mine is the much more expensive DS1815+.

The justification is warranted, ask anyone who uses a Synology box as opposed to QNAP or the other manufacturers. Heres what I found was better about Synology:

- Support cycle - Most manufacturers only support their products for up to 1 or two years, Synology guarantee you support and OS upgrades for 3 years.

Can vouch for that one... my DS211j is still running perfectly, and is still getting OS updates and patches. It's running as a backup target for a couple of other boxes now, with a couple of 4TB WD Red in there, but it just keeps going.

How do you get access to the MM area? - Safe to assume it's post count or time being a member or is it invite only?

Go with Synology.

Easy and effective.

Whichever solution you pick, you should also get a USB3 external drive to periodically back up the data. You can never have too many backups.
