I have two PC's in 1 room and my Broadband/Router in another room. My missus is complaining about the amount of ethernet cable going across the floor so this needs to change.

My router is an Asus DSL-AC68U AC1900.

I've thought about powerlines but not something I want.

I've looked at buying another wireless router connecting both PC's via ethernet and then connecting wirelessly to my Broadband/Router, but for the life of me don't know how to achieve this.

Looking at the Asus RT-AC53 AC750.

Any suggestions? Is it called wireless bridge/repeater? If so, how do I achieve this?

If you really want to go the WiFi route why not just add WiFi to the 2 desktops? Though you really should look at a way to route a Ethernet cable to the router neatly.

can i just ask why dont you want powerlines? they will be more reliable than wifi
if you just want to connect the two pc to the router then you want a wireless bridge, although some wireless repeater have bridging capabilities as well (for example tp linkre210 although it does only have one port)
how many cables are you running? if you can just run one then get a ethernet switch you will still have the full speed
the other alternative is getting a new missus :)

To consider powerlines, I need a two port ethernet version so what's the best solution as I noticed it's cheaper to buy another router and use it as a repeater.

Instead of trailing Ethernet cables 'across the floor', why not just route them neatly along the skirting with cable clips or staples? Alternatively mount slimline plastic cable trunking along the top of the boards and hide them in that. There's no replacement for a proper cable connection.

If I was buying I'd start with the higher end TP-Link adapters. If I was feeling rich I'd look at Develo.

Could you run a single cable room-to-room and then split it with a switch?

The Develo are stupidly expensive!

I'm considering the above method using a powerline wired to a switch then connecting 2 pc's. Seems a better solution?

go with cable and use the money saved not buying the powerline adapter on chocolates to convince missus?

edit: what is your internet speed? anything above 200mbps and you will not get the full performace

are your sure it is not just a single (add-on) rather than twin pack- you will need two, one near the router and one near the pc

edit: nvm i found a £29 duo pack
someone more experience with powerline than me will be able to tell if they are good

That's the versions.

Although might do some DIY and buy a TP-Link TL-SG105 5 Port Ethernet Switch for £15.99!

Without trying to labour the point, unless you are renting (and even if you are) ethernet cabling really is the way to go as it does sound like you've not set it up correctly in the first place.

First of all, you should only need a single ethernet cable from the router to the room with the two computers. In the computer room you will need to buy an ethernet switch - yes the TP-Link for £15.99 is perfect.

To run the cable, in an idea world, drilling holes through walls and using hole tidies (https://i.imgur.com/u0sPu0S.png) allows you to make the run almost invisible.

You can actually hide the cable even better if you have carpets by simply lifting the edge of the capet and running the cable alongside the carpet gripper, under door thresholds, and into the room.

If you have, or buy, white ethernet cable (or something that matches the colour of your skirting) running the cable along the top of it with cable clips can also make it 90% invisible.

Lastly, D-Line trunking (https://i.imgur.com/glvT3RE.png) again is an easy DIY option that makes the cabling almost invisible.

Next, I agree, powerline is the way to go. To be honest, compared with the cost of perhaps buying ethernet cable, possibly even the tools you need to add your own ends (if you want to do a proper job) and time it takes - given the speed and reliability you can get with powerline these days UNLESS you're looking to do large file transfers on your network then powerline can almost indistinguishable from ethernet. Especially considering your use case where both your computers would be directly connected via your switch and your internet speed is lower than that of the powerline link to your router. Oh, yeah, you'll need a switch in this case too.

Then there's WiFi. WiFi's for suckers :p

Joking aside it should be a last resort for desktop computers - or anything in a fixed position in my book.
