Home network overhaul

Yes but I don't really care about things like my washing machine getting updates or my smart plugs.
You can always have a session once a year or whatever where you relax the firewall rule, do the update check, and then go back to blocking things. In practise once an IoT device is more than about five minutes old or a new model has come out to supersede it the manufacturer tends to lose interest in supporting it.

Watched all of these videos last night. Seems to do exactly what i want, so all pretty much be able to copy what he does for my network for the most part.

Out of the few UniFi channels, his is probably my favourite.

There's still a bit of shilling for the company and pretending everything is good that seems to be a requirement of all Ubiquiti "influencers", but it's a lot more bearable than pretty much everybody else.

So I have the Dream Machine SE in my Amazon basket.
Need to decide on Access Point now. I had thought the U7Pro but that's not available yet and unsure if it's the right one for my needs really. One should do on my landing ceiling for a 3 bed semi I think.

I guess main decides are 2 mobiles, one with WiFi 7. A laptop, couple of 4k firesticks, and a load of WiFi smart plugs and lights, going to stick to hue on future so they're not using WiFi.

I'm probably going to end up using the Unifi cameras at some point as well, just seems the way way to do it. Stick an 8TB drive in the SE and away it goes.

If you want to shove one AP in a central location which means serving the majority of clients through walls and and floor then Wi-Fi 7 is irrelevant, as is 6E really. Whatever AP has 4x4 in the 2.4GHz band as well as the 5 is probably where you want to be.

So what are good options, I guess I could always stick a WiFi 7 AP in the living room at a later date of needed.

Seems like the U6LR would be a good fit then.
