Home Network question

yeah it is, and some streaming, until i had the hub 5 ive never had a network device with gigabit and it's always been fine so i'm not too concerned, i think i will need to run a cable between hub and bt tv box as i think it needs gigabit, i didn't get it working with an old sky router used as a switch.

Just need a couple of wifi access points now as i find the wifi on it pretty poor.

10/100 switches belong in the bin, especially if you're using media. Local HD content can quickly saturate 100Mbit.

Buy an unmanaged gigabit switch, it will bury that old Cisco in terms of performance.

Just going to hijack this related thread...

I have some 2 gang faceplates to install for a couple of Cat5e cables. Will any Cat5e module fit in the faceplate? Or do they have to be from the same brand? The brand of faceplate I have only sell Cat6 modules and I've read that they are not 100% backwards comparable with Cat5e modules due to the individual cable diameter.

Edit:
Unless I can be corrected on my view that the Cat6 module won't be compatible with Cat5e cable..?

Thanks for the reply.

They are Screwfix's LAP brand. I went with their sockets and switches for part of the rewire and would ideally like to keep to the brand for the sake of ensuring the colours match.

It is this faceplate to be exact: http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-1-gan...e-module-aperture-earth-stainless-steel/82296

However ScrewFix only sell the LAP Cat6 modules, hence the question about mixing module brands.

I'll see if I can find a Euro faceplate in a similar colour.
