Hi

I live in a shared house with a router in the living room that I get web through via a Powerline. What I want to do is create a Network within my room so they can't see my network, but I can carry on using the shared internet.

I have a gigabit switch that acts for my media center, and connect all my devices, but as this is unmanaged it can be seen from around the house. How would I hide the devices?

Cheers

Get a cable router and connect the WAN port to the existing network.

Connect your stuff to the LAN side of the router.

The router will need to be configured to use a different IP subnet, but apart from that it should just work. You'll be double NATing which isn't ideal, but in this situation it shouldn't cause any issues.
