Hi all,

Would like to ask your suggestion on 1-2TB NAS.
I don't need anything really mega super-duper cool.

There are only 3 main features I am looking for:

Media Center - So i can share media to my TV (Support Media Center) PS3 or any other device.
Network Connectivity - So every device on the network can access it.
Bit Torrent functions - So i can download stuff straight to my external HDD without keeping my PC on.

Can you please suggest something?

Thank you very much.

I was thinking about buying something like this: 3-5-NAS-Ethernet-Network-LAN-RJ45-SATA-Caddy-Enclosure - *No linking to competitors*
but i never heard of the brand...well, let's say that it doesn't have a brand at all :)
I'm also happy to buy just a caddy without a HDD in it because i do have a spare 250GB HDD that i could use for first month or two and then buy new 2-3tb hdd when i will save a bit more money.

What about a Synology DS112j. Chuck a hard drive in and you can do all that you want. Offers a great feature set and well worth it in my opinion in the long run.

My review HERE

A Synology is definitly the better route to take and will be able to grow with you as you expand you needs but if you want a cheaper option have a look at a seagate goflex home, you should be able to pick up a 2TB one for about £130.

Not was fast as a Synology or as feature packed but should do what you need to do.

Yeah, it is a nice box and the price isn't that high as well.
But it doesn't have Bit Torrent Support.

Thinking about buying: D-Link ShareCenter Pulse 2-bay Network Storage Enclosure

The speed isn't that high, it's around 13MB/s write and same with read. But that's just fine as i will not going to stream Full HD video from it anyway.
If i will use it purely for watching like 400-500Mb episodes and music listening on my TV ( via media center )
Is it a good choice?

There are two bays so i can fit in 2x2TB disks in there.
In total 4TB.
For now, i have 300GB disk to put in there, later on, in about a months time i can buy first 2TB disk for it.
Which will be:
60GBP for Network Storage Enclosure
80GBP for 2TB HDD
so 140 in total.
+ later on will buy another 2tb HDD which will give me 4TB NAS for 220GBP

Your opinion?

Thanks.

If you go second hand you can get a 110j with a hard drive for about £100.

done a lot of research and couldn't find any :(

+ what i like about 2 bay NAS is that i can do RAID 1 to mirror HDDs just for extra security.

So don't know what to do now... :)

I guess I got lucky then :p

If you're in no rush, patience on a well known auction site.

Yeah :) probably got lucky :)
I checked couple of auction websites and they are like 100+ without HDD :(
Just terrible price :(

Anyway, thanks for all suggestions. Will let you people know what i bought and how it is working for me :)

Yes it does

You could get something cheaper but Synology and QNAP bring a lot for the price. Great construction, software and regular updates. Really worth the premium I feel.

I really like the DS212j as a home 2 bay solution

Or get a microserver which is like £150 after the cashback deal if it's still on. Chuck a copy of windows home server on and your away.
