Some guidance if somebody wouldn't mind.

I have a Netgear D6200 ADSL router on Utility Warehouse and to extend around the house, have 2 TP-Link WPA4220 wifi extenders, linked to the router by power line ethernet (one plug by the router).

The internet connection keeps dropping out and it looks like from the router statistics screen that it is only ever showing a few minutes since startup. I assume this means that for some reason it's rebooting and I have seen it reboot too. It also doesn't seem much different when I connect my Mac via ethernet rather than wifi.

But also occasionally, I seem to struggle to see the TP-Link wifi extenders and connect to their status pages. Looking with NetSpot, it seems like the signal strength keeps dropping off intermittently.

Could all these problems be related to the router solely? Is it messing with DHCP settings somehow? The wifi extenders are so far apart that I can't imagine they're interfering with each other and I've changed the channels so they don't overlap. When they connect, they're fine.

I don't really know where to go from here with investigating it. The router definitely seems to be playing up so I thought I might give Netgear a bell, they have no more up to date firmware than I already have. Utility Warehouse is crap but I think consistently crap so can't blame that.

I'd appreciate any advice please. I don't really know an awful lot about networking....

Thanks!

Simplify things as much as you can. Try to get back to just the router and wired connections.

If it still drops out you'll know if it's the router and/or a line fault.

If it's stable add the other items to the network one-by-one until something breaks.

Connect the wifi extenders up with ethernet cables to the router. Powerline is terribly unreliable.

It won't be a DHCP issue and unlikely to be a problem with the router. Typically a router will either work 100% or not at all.

When you have these issues, connect a PC/laptop directly up to the router and see if you can connect to the internet, to rule out a connectivity issue.

When I have the router connect via ethernet to my MBP, it frequently drops out and I see the lights rebooting on the router, so I think there is something going on there.

When the laptop, iPhone or iPad are connected via the extenders, I apparently have a full signal but cannot access the internet, but I can ping other devices on the network.

I also have the odd message pop up on my laptop telling me that something else is already using this IP address. What's that about? There are no static addresses on my network.

Yes to DSL filter. Interestingly, and I feel a bit of a prat, I went onto the Netgear website looking for support options and found an updated firmware. When I did the autoupdate on the router, it didn't find it though, but fortunately gave me an option to install manually.

Fingers crossed it'll work. It doesn't mention anything about the problems I've faced but you never know... Apple certainly fix more problems than they shout about in the release notes!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll see how things go!
