Home Networking: Cat5 Installation

Im actually tempted to cutout a section of the skirting board (new ones going in) and mounting the patch panel on that.

Either that or get a small cabinet and wallmount it.

You can get 1u patch panel wall mounts that are much shallower than normal 19" racks, I have one mounted in a cupboard. You do need a little bit of room for all the cables behind them so I'm not sure how easy it would be to surface mount a patch panel?

Theres a couple of inchsedd behind where the skiting will be I think, alternatively, could mount on floorboard :p

the switch I have at the moment is only a little 5port 10/100 jobby which will be fine for temp use. I've been looking on ebay at some of the second hand Netgears,Dlinks and procurves, some of the ads are quite misleading, stating the switches to be Gb but when you look into the specs only a couple of the ports are :(

Can anyone recommend a full Gb switch for home use? Thanks

pretty much a 2.5m square room.
one of the 2.5m long walls will have a worktop across it forming the desk.
Directly underneath the desk is where I've moved all power/telephone sockets to and where I was intending on placing a small table for the router n stuff.

Messy work done :)
Went with 10runs in the end just to make sure :p

The Floor:

Under The Floor and thru the woodwork:

This then runs down thru the wall located the cross beam and choppy chop:

Reoved the plasterboard section and used a fastcut on the beam behind.
Fed this down to the bottom of the wall to another bit choppy chop:

Then used the fastcut again on teh plate and floorboard at the bottom of the wall:

Then fed under the floorboards in the main room to the corner where everythings gonna be.

Everything cleared up and hoovered :p

Both section of plaster board wedged back in for the time being lol
