I'm thinking about buying a home rowing machine, as i cant get to the gym now.

Has anyone got one? Any to recommend?

I've never used them myself, I'm sure they're fine. Personally I'd go for one with a fan and flywheel, but that's just what I'm used to with the concept 2 ones at my rowing club. They'll have plenty that are much cheaper in large sports stores.
I've heared these are decent too. Not sure on the price though.

edit: sorry, just realised the water rowers aren't cheap either!

I have a waterrower here - very very good and keeps getting the better of me :p

You can hire them through a company called rowhire - google it as I'm too lazy - decent enough pricing and an option to purchase at reduced cost if you want to keep :)

A small part wore down and fell off on the one I'm using, quick phonecall and I had 2 spares in the post the following morning :)

my advise would be to keep your money till you can find a used concept 2 in your price range, ive killed 2 magnetic rowers (carl lewis rowers) in 2 years training 4 times a week on them for 40mins each time, the rachet systems the magnetic/air rowers use just have plastic componants and wear out.

Are you hiring or did you buy outright?

What's the noise like with a waterrower? I quite fancy a rowing machine of a form but the fan ones would be too loud to use in a flat.

hiring :)

Noise isn't too bad either (literally just water sloshing around :))

Also this thread seems like a sensible place for the question:

Been using the water rower and running into a few problems :( That being that even after only 800 metres my feet are twisting and coming out of the straps :(

Breaks my rhythm and forces me to stop and fix it - getting fed up and can't fuigure out whats going wrong - any advice?

Those water-rowers look pretty interesting, so I'm now waiting for a promo pack from the rowhire place. I've had several cheapo rowers in the past and found they really do help shift the weight but I invariably end up destroying them within a few months. I'd never thought about hiring a decent one before....

Concept 2 are the dogs do dah's, but costly. As previous if you can get a reasonable one secondhand it will be fine as parts(if ever needed) are easily obtainable.

Only problem is that they are an "air rower" and some people find them a little noisy, although I find mine acceptable. It's not a Concept (couldn't find a S/H one at the time) but a Tunturi R710. Had it 4 years and used twice a week on average (allowing for hols etc) and it's as good as new. Very solidly built and cost me around £300 at the time.

Just after I bought mine Which did a report on rowers. The magnetic ones weren't much good apparently. There was a cheaper air rower which they recommended - sold by Argos at the time for around £200 but can't remember the name (this Argos one looks a lot like it "V-fit Innsbruck Air Rower"). Actually, I think they also commented on the "water rower" mentioned in this thread so if you search the Which site you could do worse for unbiased info.
