Hey guys so im altering my server at home soon, currently running windows 7, but im changing that to windows home server 2011, and it currently has 4x2TB and a 60gb SSD for the main system. It’s a core i3 with 8GB ram.

So im thinking of adding a RAID 5 controller for the 4 western digital green 2tb hard drives for data safety (am I right in assuming 8tb will appear as one 6tb drive under raid5 ?), my question is, will the drives go into standby correctly and/or lower power mode or will they be spinning at full wack constantly as the OS will see the RAID5 controller as 1 large drive I assume ?

I ask as iv built it to be a lower power system, currently runs at about 50-60 watts under load

Thanks
