home server backup etc

im buildin a home server atm. Hopefully will be running windows home server. The main use will be storage, file sharing and download box. Is there any apps that let me sync my desktop pc folder to the server? Eg my documents or whatever

If you can get your head round a command line Robocopy is fine.

Simply use offline files, never used home server but i assume you can setup shares manually using alternate credentials.

Synctoy - It's a Microsoft Power Toy, and lets you syncronise files and folders between locations. I use it to back up my fileserver to external disk.

synctoy or robocopy

both are made by ms, both are awesome (synctoy is windows based, robocopy is commandline, although there is a gui for it now too)

Is the whole point of Windows Home Server not that it is built exactly for this sort of thing and as such includes client software that does this?

It does, although it will only do it at drive level, not folder or file level IIRC.

It also doesn't work on x64 platforms :rolleyes:

can synctoy be setup to sync files at a given time, eg before shut down, 2pm on a friday etc
